I rarely hear anyone cut against the grain.

I think street photography is hard to continue doing, Ive made some documentaries on street photographers, and found that most if not all of them were loners, or had strife in their lives. it regularly shows in the work; the happy street shooter creates dull and uninteresting images that may have some sensational value for a minute, and the ill-at-ease street shooter generally falls into their pictures, and sees things others dont. You have to maintain that if you want to continue, and when you are up you strive to stay there because being down is dreadful.

As for In-Public, yes well I saw that book they put out some years ago and was horrified at 85% of it. And the gall to call it "Street Photography Now". It sold on the name alone, so many of my buddies went out and broke fingers to get it, and most of them were shocked at the sludge that was in it. There are a lot of used copies of it in second hand bookstores..

Some years before I submitted work to IP and waited almost a year to write to them and ask if they even got my email, and the response was a terse "you dont meet the requirements". So I asked what those requirements were and never got a response, Sometime later I met another photographer who told me that there was a clique and if you weren't in, then you were nothing.
'I know a guy' as the saying goes.. who made it big, and he basically copied, no not inspired by, but copied, great images by cool nobody kids and because he was in the clique made it big -bigger then that book.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4935046131385109105.post-35220091627376277182014-10-03T13:11:45.603-07:002014-10-03T13:11:45.603-07:00We need more (knowledgeable) people willing to spe...We need more (knowledgeable) people willing to speak out independently, unafraid of the toes they may trample and swell.

Only way to get to the next road...Stan B.https://www.blogger.com/profile/17381743002180926900noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4935046131385109105.post-24430210879780213372014-09-27T20:23:15.977-07:002014-09-27T20:23:15.977-07:00Andrew

I've been a fan of Jeffrey Ladd for a number of years. Thank you, Andrew, for bringing another great read to the table.
DennisDDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16271037207063702231noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4935046131385109105.post-56416950993241473082014-09-27T07:36:34.841-07:002014-09-27T07:36:34.841-07:00A very interesting interview. There are a lot of Trent Parke, Elliot Erwitt, Bresson, etc followers. I love their shots. But when one feel the noise in the back our brain that we are reinterpreting again and again the same photos we play with other kind of styles, cameras and subjects. Lately I was doing photos of trees in the street. I don't know if they are street photography. But I can understand what said Jeffrey. One thing that collaborates to fresh our view is change the place we do photos. Koudelka has this approach. I am pretty boring of view the same places again and again and again. So, good luck with the German streets. They look very quiet. Reading the statement of Jeffrey in the Awful German Language I wonder is the street is Der, Die or Das.
