Gave him a show at our gallery for Fotoseptiembre - 2007? Time flies, eh? I enjoyed reading this interview very much. David IS doing the work -- love him, hate him, whatever. That doesn't mean I like all of his photos. The ones I like, I tell him about. The ones I don't I chalk up to differences in taste. I...Great job on the interview Blake and David.

I've become friends with David in Austin and he has done an amazing job of elevating photography in Austin, which BTW, has some great resources: The Magnum Archive, UT Press, former Winogrand students and stomping grounds, etc. David brought a real-life community together which is so different from what you have in Houston or even with ICP. He is a true hero of photography for Austin. I concur with his description of Austin being a black-hole for street photography. I lived there for four years and can attest to that. Would make any street photographer want to move to NYC.

I guess I must be a complaining old guy too. What David talks about here I've witnessed on the Internet as well. I've talked with several of you personally, and know you feel the same way. I've witnessed many photographers that I consider exceptional street photographers whore themselves out to such "phenom blogger" for the free exposure in one breathe, and then disdain that same hand that fed them in the next. I understand this practice BTW, as a necessary evil in the fight for an ever decreasing slice of the photography pie. And if you really need the exposure, why not whore yourself out and teach a workshop with him?

You may not like David's photos, approach, or attitude. Fact is, he's doing the work. He's making it happen, and he'll make it without your support like he's done with ACP, and building a software company.

Maybe y'all MFA panties just got all bunched up because a geek is making it happen and living the life you've always wanted?

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4935046131385109105.post-28975435879135679582013-11-25T12:05:03.152-08:002013-11-25T12:05:03.152-08:00well done, Blake. could you please interview Alex ...well done, Blake. could you please interview Alex Coghe as well?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4935046131385109105.post-57144231189749751102013-11-25T11:06:24.574-08:002013-11-25T11:06:24.574-08:00That no parking picture is genius.
